Why is the water retention of HPMC affected?

As a result, the water retention of HPMC products will be affected by the following four reasons, as detailed below, for reference only.

1、 The water retention of HPMC will be affected by viscosity

When the viscosity of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose increases, its water retention rate will also increase. When the viscosity reaches a certain level, the increase of water retention rate tends to be gentle.

2、 The water retention of HPMC will be affected by the amount added

Generally speaking, the greater the amount added, the higher the water retention rate, and the better the water retention effect. Within the range of 0.25-0.6% of the added amount, the water retention rate will be faster with the increase of the added amount. When the addition amount is further added, the addition trend of water retention rate becomes slow.

3、 The water retention of HPMC will be affected by the temperature of hot gel

Generally, the higher the temperature of thermal gel, the higher the water retention rate. On the contrary, the thermal gel temperature, the water retention rate is low.

4、 The water retention of HPMC will be affected by the uniformity

Homogeneous reaction of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, methoxy and hydroxypropyl groups are evenly distributed, and the water retention rate is high.
