What is the difference between hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) with and without S?
1.HPMC is divided into instant and slow soluble types
HPMC instant solubility is suffixed with the letter S, such as 100000S for 100000 viscosity instant HPMC, which is treated with glyoxal during production.
HPMC slow dissolution type does not add any letters, such as 100000, which means 100000 viscosity slow dissolution type HPMC.
2. With or without S, different characteristics
Instant HPMC quickly disperses in cold water and disappears into the water. At this time, the liquid has no viscosity because HPMC is only dispersed in water without real dissolution. After about two minutes, the viscosity of the liquid gradually increases, forming a transparent viscous colloid.
Slow soluble HPMC can quickly disperse in hot water at around 70 ℃ when encountering cold water. When the temperature drops to a certain temperature, the viscosity slowly emerges until a transparent viscous colloid is formed.
3. With or without S, different uses
Slow soluble HPMC can only be used in putty powder and mortar. In liquid adhesives, coatings, and washing products, it can cause agglomeration and cannot be used.
Instant HPMC has a wide range of applications, and can be used in putty powder, mortar, liquid glue, coatings, and cleaning products without any taboos.
