What are the differences between hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and guar gum?

1. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has the following differences from guar gum:

The viscosity of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is not as high as that of guar gum, and the thickening effect is not as good as that of guar gum. Guar gum is seriously caked in water and difficult to stir. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is not seriously caked in water, guar gum is not resistant to high temperature, and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can withstand high temperature below 220 ℃.

2. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and cellulose hydroxypropyl methyl ether, is prepared by specially etherifying highly pure cotton cellulose under alkaline conditions.

(1) Main purpose:

① PVC: as a dispersant in PVC production, it is the main auxiliary agent for suspension polymerization to prepare PVC.

② Construction industry: as a water retaining agent and retarder of cement mortar, the mortar has pumpability. When plastering mortar, gypsum material, putty powder or other building materials, it can be used as adhesive to improve the smearability and prolong the operation time. It can be used for pasting ceramic tile, marble and plastic decoration, pasting reinforcing agent, and reducing the amount of cement. The water retention performance of HPMC prevents the slurry from cracking due to drying too fast after coating, and enhances the strength after hardening.

③ Ceramic manufacturing: widely used as adhesive in ceramic product manufacturing.

④ Coating industry: as a thickener, dispersant and stabilizer in the coating industry, it has good compatibility in water or organic solvents. As paint remover.

⑤ Ink printing: as a thickener, dispersant and stabilizer in the ink industry, it has good compatibility in water or organic solvents.

⑥ Plastic: used as mold release agent, softener, lubricant, etc.

⑦ Pharmaceutical industry: coating materials, membrane materials, speed control polymer materials for sustained-release preparations, stabilizers, suspension AIDS, tablet adhesives and tackifiers.

⑧ Others: This product is also widely used in leather, paper products industry, fruit and vegetable preservation and textile industry.

3. Guar gum

Cationic guar gum is a water-soluble polymer. Its chemical name is guar gum hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride. Using natural guar gum as raw material, the remaining endosperm after removing epidermis and germ mainly contains galactose and mannose. After drying, crushing and pressure hydrolysis, it is precipitated with 20% ethanol solution, centrifuged and dried, and reacts with dehydrated glycerol ether trimethylammonium chloride.

(1) Performance

Solubility has outstanding dispersion ability in cold water and hot water, does not produce agglomeration, and improves the convenience of manufacturing and production operation. The compatibility of high salt and pH value can expand and dissolve rapidly in a wide pH range, and remains stable even in the system with high salt content. Due to the uniform distribution of nitrogen content, the chemical structure has more affinity than similar products, and has good compatibility with anions, zwitterions and surfactants. It can be used in the products of various surfactants.

(2) Purpose:

Papermaking auxiliaries

The research shows that guar gum can meet the requirements of zero emission in modern factories. It can maintain or improve the paper uniformity while improving the paper retention and water filtration. It is a promising environmental protection additive.
