What is the difference between hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) with and without "s"?

HPMC can be divided into instant and slow soluble types

HPMC instant uses the letter S as the suffix. For example, 100000s represents 100000 viscosity instant HPMC. In the production process, glyoxal is added.

HPMC slow solution type does not add any letters. For example, 100000 is 100000 viscosity slow solution HPMC.

With or without s, the characteristics are different

The instant HPMC quickly disperses in cold water and disappears into the water. At this time, the liquid has no viscosity, because the HPMC is only dispersed in the water and does not really dissolve. After about two minutes, the viscosity of the liquid slowly increases and forms a transparent viscous colloid.

Slowly soluble HPMC, agglomerated in cold water, can disperse rapidly in hot water at about 70 ℃. When the temperature drops to a certain temperature, the viscosity slowly appears until a transparent viscous colloid is formed.

With or without s, the purpose is different

Slow soluble HPMC can only be used in putty powder and mortar. It will agglomerate in liquid glue, coating and washing products and cannot be used.

Instant HPMC has a wide range of applications. It can be used in putty powder, mortar, liquid glue, coating and washing products without any taboos.
