CMC characteristics of carboxymethyl cellulose

CMC characteristics of carboxymethyl cellulose of Shandong chuangyao Biotechnology Co., Ltd

1. The effect of temperature: the dry CMC can withstand the temperature below 140-150 ℃ for several minutes. Like most solutions, the viscosity of CMC solution decreases when the temperature rises, but these solutions remain stable when heated, and the viscosity will return to the initial viscosity after cooling.

2. Effect of acid and base: CMC is a kind of acid with strong acid. If CMC is treated with strong acid, free acid HCMC will be released, which is insoluble in water. It should be noted that the precipitation only occurs when the pH value is low (about 2.5). If the pH value exceeds this value, the precipitation will not occur, such as in the acetic acid medium with pH value of 3.5. NaCMC can be used as buffer and ion exchanger. If the pH value is kept within the above limits, a small amount of acid can be added to the aqueous solution without causing changes in solubility

3. Effect of salt: some metal salts react with CMC to precipitate corresponding cellulose, metal salts of hydroxyacetic acid, aluminum salt, tin salt and lead salt, high iron salt, silver salt, copper salt and zirconium salt will react. Carboxymethyl cellulose CMC will not react with calcium salt and magnesium salt to precipitate, so it can be used in hard water. The existence of weak alkali metal salt usually reduces the viscosity of solution, However, the existence of strong concentration of alkali metal salt will increase the viscosity of the solution and even cause gelation in some cases.

4. Solvent resistance: CMC is not soluble in organic solvents? Although some swelling reactions may occur, NaCMC will not dissolve, but a certain percentage of water-soluble organic solvents (usually 30-40%) can be added to CMC solution

5. Moisture content: carboxymethyl cellulose CMC is a kind of material that is easy to be wet? When placed in the air, the dry CMC absorbs 12% - 25% moisture (depending on the humidity of the air and the selected grade). In order to avoid the change of the concentration of active substances due to the change of water content in a given period of time, CMC should be stored in the original packaging or sealed container? It is recommended to store it in a dry place.
